Tilted Towers Update

Posted by marshalloak on April 22, 2018 at 5:25 PM Comments comments (0)

Update on Tilted Towers. After a few weeks into season three a comet like object in the sky looking like it's falling towards tilted. Each week the comet appears to get closer to the surface of the map and closer and closer to tilted. While this was happening random telescopes started appearing around the map looking towards this comet. This also goes hand in hand with the theme of this season with most of the battle pass skins being space related or space themed. But console players are the ones who get the most information about what this means. On random parts of the map, players controllers will start to vibrate randomly. Or so it seems. One guy decided to write down the how the vibrations felt and he noticed that they were not random. They were actually morse code for “SOS D5 418”. The sos is obvious for “Save our souls” (or if you’re a man of culture you’d know the original term was ‘save our ships’) (or of you’re even more of a man of culture you’d know the second ‘S’ in SOS doesn’t stand for ships either but rather had no meaning, but from a french deviation of ‘help me’) The “D5” can be related to the part of the map, D5 similar to a chess board where each column has a letter and each row has a number. At D5 lies tilted towers. So at this point we know SOS and can assume D5 is referring to tilted towers, but what about 418? Well seeing that it is april much of the community assumed it was referring to April 18th. This caused an uproar for the 18th as many of the community thought that april 18th would be the end of Tilted. To add to this, on the 17th the aforementioned comet had a new addition, as you looked at it there were more little comets/asteroids constantly flying by it. So the 18th seemed logical for the death of Tilted Towers. Now it is the 19th and I am proud to say, Tilted Towers is still fine. Now this leads some questions, did the morse code mean anything? Was it just a vibration glitch? Were all the telescopes meaningless? Does the comet have any significance? These are all questions much of the fortnite community has and still looks to solve as the season continues. As for this update, well I’ll just have to keep you posted.

Tilted Towers

Posted by marshalloak on April 22, 2018 at 5:25 PM Comments comments (0)

In the recent fortnite community there has been talk about changing tilted towers for the better of the game. After about a month ago there was a major map update in fortnite and about 10 or so new locations were added. Since all have been used a lot, but one stands out among the rest. Tilted Towers. Tilted Towers often referred to as “Tilted” experienced a major influx of players throughout the update. Because of the major possibility of good loot at Tilted, many of the other parts of the map have been neglected because of how “great” tilted is. Many of the fortnite community has made a statement how tilted has made a negative impact on the game because where they usually go is way less populated because of how attractive tilted is. Many of the fortnite fanbase loves Tilted, but lots of the more experienced players have had an influence on the more novice players to persuade them that tilted has made a too substantial change on the original flow of the game. Because of this some suggestions were made: make tilted smaller, make tilted smaller and decentralize it, or completely get rid of tilted. Although these are all major changes, it would be for the better of the game in my opinion. Tilted is a little too big for the center of the map because generally Tilted will be within the first zone, and has a good chance of being in the second zone. If tilted was much smaller I believe it would still be a problem because of how centralized it is. If tilted was smaller and relocated, it could work assuming it is put near the edge of the map so that players can’t stay there the whole game. One of the main problems with tilted is that is centralized so that as the game progresses it forces players there, which in turn means that there would be a constant rate of players going to tilted. Which means that there will always be players there, which is not really what fortnite should be about because none of the other locations have that kind of player influx and that ruins the function and necessity for the other locations. Because of how massive Tilted is, some locations are never even touched. So in conclusion, titled towers is a problem that needs to fixed from the input of the fortnite community.

Fortnite Strategy: Guided Rocket Launcher

Posted by marshalloak on April 17, 2018 at 1:00 PM Comments comments (0)

Guided rocket Launcher. This rpg came into the game 3/29/30. I was lucky enough to obtain the item in game and use it. Right out of the gate I knew they were going to have to nerf the new rocket launcher. As long as your body is in a safe location and you have enough rockets, you are able to shoot a rocket and control it to go wherever for about 10 seconds. This ability is very broken because if you have any highground in the late game, you are almost guaranteed to win the game. There is little defense to this rocket. The best thing you can do it build all around yourself and hope there isn't a small gap anywhere around you. If there is a gap, because the rocket is so easily controlled, the user should be able to find the gap and unfortunately fit the rocket in your base and end your game. This power is crazy as he could be more than 200 meters away bombarding you with rockets and there is almost nothing you can do. Now on the opposite side of that, it can be very fun to do this to people, however it is very easy to realize it is just a little too powerful and needs to be adjusted. Personally I would suggest a different guiding system where the rocket follows where your cursor is going and not a POV rocket because it leads to an unrealistic and overpowered weapon. With this, the item drop is quite rare, but even so if you are lucky enough to get it you have little to no excuse to lose. This weapon is less useful in squads and duos because of you are to start using it, you will have the rest of a squad to deal with and possibly give away your location. It is still a good weapon to use but at that point it becomes more situational. Another aspect to this weapon is the possibility of rocket riding, and self rocket riding. With the extreme increase of control rockets the ability to control rocket riding is crazy. You are able to have your teammate jump on the rocket and guide them to an enemy base. This possibility is crazy and really should not be possible. You can also rocket ride yourself to enemy bases in solo. With all the opportunities, the new rocket launcher tends to be overpowered in the eyes of most, but has opened new doors to the strategies you can use in the game.

Fortnite Strategy: Weapon Tiers

Posted by marshalloak on April 17, 2018 at 1:00 PM Comments comments (0)

There are tens of weapons in fortnite battle royale. With so many options one may need help with understanding how any of the weapons work or how the tiers effect the weapons. In medium range you will want an AR, the best being a golden scar, then the purple scar, then the blue AR or Burst, then the green AR or burst and finally the grey AR or burst. The AR and burst are the best at a medium range and will be most useful then. Another medium range weapon is the revolver which can be blue, green or gray, but it’s almost to trash to even mention so forget that I said it. If you see one, don’t pick it up. It is cheeks and you’ll find that out soon enough. On to short range weapons, there are: pistols, silenced pistols, tactical smg’s, silenced smg’s, pump shotguns, tactical shotguns, heavy shotguns, rpg’s, grenade launchers. The pistol is also almost too garbage to mention, but it is in the game so it will be included in this review. The normal pistol is less effective a #1 pencil on a standardized state test. i.e it has little to no purpose and you’ll be lucky to even get a kill with such a pathetic piece of metal that fortnite calls a gun. The silenced pistols on the other hand is better than the pistols, but after the beginning of the game they become dewlaps. The silenced pistol can be purple or gold, either way decent at the beginning but soon to be dropped as better things come along. Secondly all the shotguns tend to be effective within your play style, so pick the one you like and it’ll do the job. The tactical shotgun comes in green, blue and purple, the pump comes in gray and green and the heavy shotgun can be purple or gold. Special weapons like the RPG and grenade launcher are also good, and come in the blue, purple and gold tiers. They are both good situationally. If you find one as they are rare drops, be sure to pick it up for later. At long range there are bolt snipers, semi auto snipers and crossbows. The bolt sniper is truly the only good long range weapon regardless of its color, the semi auto can be good depending on the situation but the crossbow is a less effective than an unbent peen. If you have a sniper pick it up as it will help later in the game. Over all you will want an AR, at least one short range weapon, and a special weapon like a sniper or Rpg and with the last two slots healing supplies.

Fortnite Strategy: Blitz

Posted by marshalloak on April 17, 2018 at 1:00 PM Comments comments (0)

Blitz is a gamemode that starts with a zone set, the zone moves in faster each cycle and you get 2x materials from all objects. In combination of this there are increased spawns of golden weapons, purple weapons, launch pads and traps. As well as increased ammo spawns and increased chest spawns. This game mode is chaos but it is quite fun. It can be done in squads or solo. Squads blitz is even more crazy because there are so many people everywhere and as soon as you are seen you will be getting shot at or being built over getting launch padded at etc. This game mode provided a lot unusual strategies to be used during this limited time event. During blitz I was able to secure a few bags… dubs… wins. The best way to do this is once again, do not play squads as they tend to be gauche and unable to understand what is going on. The best way to win blitz is by gathering a bunch of materials, go to a less populated part of the map that is in the middle of the circle and just build like crazy and if anything goes downhill use a launchpad and run. If you are so star-crossed to be playing squads, my best advice is to find an excuse, my personal favorites include but are not limited to: brb fish is drowning, my refrigerator is running, and I HAVE to catch it, my grandpa just gave birth and finally BRB gypsies on my lawn. But if you are stuck in the everliving loss cycle with your group and you want to stick it out, be sure to just work together and stay strong as a group. As long as morale is strong your team should be able to stick it out and possibly win one. All in all, blitz is a fun game mode but it is very difficult to win because even bad players have good weapons so skill doesn’t have much of an effect on how the game goes so it can tend to be very random on how well you do. Because of this, you are able to just mess around the whole time and do what you want which makes the game more fun. The only negative thing about the blitz game mode is how fast the zone moves, although this can be countered with all the increased launch pad spawns, it is still very difficult to land in the circle at times because of how rapidly the zone continues to move.

Fortnite Strategy: Friends

Posted by marshalloak on April 17, 2018 at 1:00 PM Comments comments (0)

Fortnite has a set three game modes, and sometimes a fourth gamemode that can vary from a bunch of different game modes like blitz, 20 v 20 v 20 v 20 v 20, 50 v 50, sneaky silencers, high explosives etc. Although fun to play by yourself it is much more fun to play with a friend. For these experiences if you have one friend you want to play with you can play duos, where it is usually 50 teams of 2. Or if you have more than one friend but less than 4 in total, you could play squads. Usually playing with friends can be more fun because when you work together you can do better and when you make mistakes there could be less of a repercussion because you can rely on your teammates. That being said, if your teammates are cheeks, playing in groups may not be a wise decision unless you are playing for fun. When that happens to me, it makes me think of a semi famous anonymous quote “When I die, I want my teammates to lower me in my grave so that they can let me down one last time.” For me personally I tend to avoid group settings because it will lead to nothing but our entire squad getting statutorily raped by literally anyone because of their inability to have any sort of game sense, hand-eye coordination, communication skills or a slim piece of skill it takes to do well in fortnite. That aside, if you are so lucky to have friends that are not clapped at fortnite, consider yourself lucky.

Consider these tips as something useful to you: First be sure to stick together. As soon as you split up you will begin to have problems. If you are playing duos this is less of a problem as you will only ever have to take on two to three people at once. If you are split up, your teammates, no matter how inadequate they are, are still there to help you get to the end and should ideally be a help to win battles. This is not always the case. If they just that bad, you may just suggest they refer to the first blog post strategy (linked here) and hide in a bush as you do your due diligence and wipe squads as your teammates attempt to do anything helpful.

Finally be sure to share your materials. If once again your teammates are physically inapt keep everything for yourself, otherwise share so that you will all be able to contribute to the group cause rather than your own.

Fortnite Strategy: General Tips?

Posted by marshalloak on March 2, 2018 at 11:55 PM Comments comments (0)

So you might have been checking my blog recently and be asking yourself, “Marshall do you ever win?” and the answer to that is yes? I win on occasion, but today will be offering general tips in order to achieve the majorly sought after “victory royale”.

The first and most important thing to always try to have when in a battle is to have the height advantage. In any situation having the height advantage will greatly increase your odds of coming out on top. When you are above your enemy you almost always have the option of retreating, and the ability to have more control over the situation than your enemy. Also when you have the height advantage, if your enemy tries to run away, you should be able to see them and take them out.

Another thing that is very important, is to have consistency with where you place items in your inventory. For example I always keep my primary in the first slot, a shotgun in the second, keep the third open to whatever, put something special like a sniper, rpg, or grenade launcher in the fourth slot and keep meds in the last slot. Keeping things consistent like that allows you to always know where things are in your inventory, so you don’t have to keep looking at your inventory wondering where you placed your primary.

Another tip is to find a place where you like dropping, so that you can know where all the chests spawn, and you can develop a route to take while looting at the beginning of the game. This way you can always be quick to loot in an area where you’re comfortable and can easily navigate through all the mess that is the fortnite map. On top of this, if you are confronted, you should know the area and the best way to approach situations given usual circumstances.

My final tip is to have patience. Patience in Fortnite will almost always help you more than being too aggressive. When given the opportunity patience will lead to more ideal situations where you aren’t forced to make a quick decision and probably get an outcome that you didn't want. Usually if you wait before taking a gunfight, you can act quickly enough where they won't be able to get on shot off on you whereas if you make a quick decision you may get taken out and lose near the final circle.

Fortnite Strategy: Fatal Fields

Posted by marshalloak on February 23, 2018 at 11:10 PM Comments comments (0)

This past week I have not had any successful strategies, and so I will be giving tips on what to do if you drop at fatal fields.

Firstly I would recommend that you do not drop at the house at fatal fields, rather the forest off to the side of it so that you can gather materials before you start to charge fatal fields. After you raid the forest, usually I would recommend that you go out behind the big house and raid the two small barns, however if you hear someone in the quarry, I would go over there and take care of business like so:

Then go back to the big house and clear the place of all enemies in order to acquire the most loot. This being said you will want one AR, a pump shotgun or a blue tactical or better, one sniper preferably a blue bolt or better, some sort of grenade, and finally some sort of medication, minishields or medkits. Not to mention all the building materials you will need. But once all that is acquired focus on supply drops like so:

After you are all geared up at fatal fields you can either stay there until the zone moves or you can just run along the edges of the zone until you find someone, a supply drop or a chest. At that point you would have to just play like you normally would and hopefully win. At this point you can use any of the previously made strategies or try a new one, like a trap room. I tried this many times before but could not get it to work, but I’m sure if you gave it a shot it’d work fine… maybe. In order to do a trap room, you will need at least one trap, preferably more, an item of value, some sort of gold, medkits or mini shields and a good camping spot. You’ll want to place an item down build all around it and place traps where the enemy can’t see it. After this you just have to wait for nature to take its course and hopefully someone will fall for it. Usually speaking the fortnite community will not fall for it, but it is possible they will.

All in all Fatal Fields is a great place to land because it will not be too populated and has good loot spawns with many chests and natural drops. Fatal fields also falls near the middle of the map so you are almost guaranteed to be close or in the first circle.

Fortnite Strategy: Skybridge

Posted by marshalloak on February 17, 2018 at 12:20 AM Comments comments (0)

This fortnite strategy is a well known but rarely used strategy, the skybridge. This strategy requires a lot of patience, ideally a friend and most importantly a lot of materials.

First you will need to land in a place with a lot of resources accessible to you. I would suggest a place like Wailing Woods, Moisty Mire, Fatal Fields or Lonely Lodge. These places all have decent loot with many trees in the surrounding area. If while you are looting you find a launch pad, be sure to keep it handy for later when you will need it most.

After acquiring all your materials, ideally something like 800 or so wood and brick, you will want to head to the circle and stay within it until it is shrunk three times. After that the circle will be small enough and you can start to build up into the sky. Like so: https://youtu.be/nzWnfDaLw-g

Once you are all the way up you want to build all the way into the circle, but just barely.

Finally you will need to just sit there and make as little noise as possible until the circle moves. Once that happens, you continue to do what you were doing before and build towards the center and wait on the edge until you are near the end. If you were lucky enough to get a launch pad earlier, you may want to place it down and land in someone’s base to take over, or wait until you feel the moment is right to go down to ideally win the game. Some things to remember while doing this strategy, it is imperative that you gather enough materials so that you can build for long periods of time. It is also very important that no one sees you while you are building or while you are waiting because if they do, there is basically no chance that you will survive.

https://youtu.be/P5FAh5RfC74

Overall this strategy is not very effective, but is very fun to do. This strategy requires many things to work for you, like a good circle spawn, luck with stealth and an overall gamesense. If any of these fail you, you will not win or even get close to the end because one wrong step will literally drop you to the bottom. Finally the main takeaway: don’t meme on yourself too hard and you’ll be fine in the long run. Maybe.

Fortnite Stragey: Rocket Launcher

Posted by marshalloak on February 9, 2018 at 11:30 PM Comments comments (0)

In this fortnite strategy, it is imperative that you find a rocket launcher… obviously. The best way to do this is either to open a chest with one in it, or kill someone that already has one. I was lucky enough to open a chest with one. So once you get that you are going to need to be careful enough to not shoot it at the ground because the splash damage will be large enough to severely kill you or knock you down.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVvfshMCZRA

Once you get your rocket you will need to be sure to find enough ammo in order to get the best meme experience out of it. Although the rocket launcher strategy is not very effective it is very fun and will lead to some interesting moments. For example this one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfHAge7Ivo4

It is also very important to remember to use other weapons as well, so that you can last longer within the fray. Weapons like an AR or any sniper will help you very much when paired with the RPG. When you keep those weapons in your inventory it gives you a lot more tools to use when you are in a pinch so you can come out on top. If you solely rely on the RPG you are pretty much destined to fail, as I tried to do in my first three attempts. Clips like:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOudh-nkgIg

Are good examples of a good time to use another weapon than an RPG.

Another thing you are going to want to do is build up so that you can get the best angle on your opponents. For example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9pyjZIwPvY

Building up like this gives you that edge on your opponents because it becomes much harder for them to hit you, while you can easily hit them time after time. When you have a high enough base, you are much more likely to come out on top of the dual.

Finally this strategy like all my other strategies ended with me getting third place, but this time it was much more tense, with much more action and with a friend by my side. I would recommend getting a friend to play with you as it makes the fortnite experience much better and gives you a crutch if you fail to do your part. If you are lucky enough to get an RPG in the early game, you should 100% keep it and save it for later as it will provide an action packed game and give you the edge on all of your competition because of its versatility and damage factor.
